FAQ

Participation is a great way to support and further the research on the communicative skills of multilingual children. At the moment, there are still many questions about how different types of language skills develop in children. For our study to be sound, having enough participants is imperative. We hope that the results of our study can inform future researchers as well as policy-makers and other non-academic stakeholders in multilingual early childhood education. As a thank you for participating, children will receive a small gift such as a sticker book when they finish their experiment.

Yes! We also need to test monolingual children so that we can accurately measure multilingual children.

All tasks will be game-like and will require children to react in some way, for example to what is shown on a laptop.

Parents/guardians are asked to read the information brochure and sign the consent form. For most studies, parents/guardians are also asked to complete an online questionnaire about the languages spoken at home and their child’s language development.

This depends on the study. Typically, testing will take somewhere between 15 and 45 minutes. If children are very young, testing will be much shorter to make sure they don’t get tired or lose focus.

We really appreciate any help finding new families who’d like to participate! You can share your own experience participating in our project and share our website with them so they can read more and sign up! If they have any questions they are always welcome to contact us

Your child’s scores from the tasks will immediately be anonymized and, when our study is published, made publicly available to other researchers for at least 10 years. Please note that information such as your child’s name, location, and other contact info will not be shared.

Unfortunately, due to the anonymization and encryption of all our data, it is not possible to retrieve any results for your child. This is to ensure all of the data we collect stays safe and anonymous! However, if you subscribe to our newsletter you will receive a short report with the most important findings of the study in general.

Would you like your child to take part? Then fill in the participation form!
